Howdy! A very happy Saturday to you — apologies on being a smidge late this week, as with everything in DIY renovation land, each task takes about one thousand years longer than you think it will. I finally feel a bit over the hump with it, and it reminds me of what my favorite Peloton instructor Jess King calls the “shit shift,” aka, the part where it goes from really sucking to feeling like you’ve gotten in the groove. She might be describing a workout, but I’ve taken it on for adjusting to just about everything challenging in life. The shit feeling will shift! Or so we tell ourselves. Just kidding, it will. I think.

Bits?

  1. May I suggest you please try and feed your dog corn on the cob, it’s really very cute. I saw a lady on TikTok feed her golden retriever one this week and found it perfect, so I had to try it with Leonard with great success (Otis didn’t much care for the corn). After I held it for him to nibble for a bit he brought his corn cob all around and treated it with great affection. Maybe make sure they don’t choke on it or something, this isn’t an official recommendation! I am not a dog doctor!

  2. I’ve been loving the PC game Manor Lords lately, which came back into my gameplay rotation after not playing for a few years. It’s an indie still in development, but the bones are great and I’m kind of obsessed with my curating my little region to thrive. It’s a medieval strategy game with an in-depth city builder, quite aesthetically pleasing, and calming when your citizens aren’t dying from starvation or being overrun by bandits.

  1. We got our flooring delivered this week! As I’ve said many a time, we’re reno-ing our master bath & bedroom, which includes ripping up some nasty old carpet and replacing it with wood floors. For a few technical reasons we decided on engineered hardwood, and are so happy and excited with what we chose. My friend Mallory is an interior designer & recommended we check out the brand Stuga — after shopping around quite a lot, getting a few different samples from different brands, these easily took the cake. They’re beautiful, high-quality and more climate & health-friendly than traditional engineered hardwood, which was of pretty high importance to me. Because we’re doing all the work ourselves and saving so much that way, we wanted to invest in more quality materials & I’m so so glad we did. We haven’t installed them yet, but they’re beautiful in person and I can’t wait to have them in our bedroom. As always, I don’t have any affiliation with anything I mention here, just excited to share because they’re great! Also, shoutout to my parents for helping us unload 24 boxes of flooring off of a truck and up a set of stairs into our room. We would be exhausted without you!
