Hoowwwwdy my friends! Another Friday comes to pass. This week completely slipped through my fingers and I can’t believe we’re here again. Maybe because it’s so hot? It’s so hot. Forced to get out the door before 7am to walk the dogs hot. Phew.

Onto the bits, shall we?

  1. Back with another wild animal sighting, but this time, our highly mythical neighborhood bear. But myth no more! I saw that sucker with my own two eyes Wednesday morning. He’s been lurking on all of my neighbors driveway cameras, rifling through our trash cans and even snapped one of our bungee cords we use to keep our trash bin’s lid closed tight to ward off the javelinas. Our mere weak bungees were no match for mister bear, though. Oh no. It was very fun to be the one to report “I saw him! I saw him!” at my neighborhood’s morning dog playdate…as the dogs romped around in my neighbor’s yard we had a show-and-tell of our favorite bear-safety accessories. Tiny little air horns, bear spray, and my personal favorite, a vintage electronic megaphone discovered to be a relic from RadioShack in the 90s.

The megaphone in question, into which my delightful neighbor practiced shouting on the loudspeaker, “I see a bear. I repeat, I see a bear.”

Below the paywall, seven more weekly bits including a TikTok that really changed my thinking, stories from the rodeo, a surprising hostess gift, my first thoughts on the new season of Bachelor in Paradise, and more.

Weekly Bits will be a paid subscriber exclusive from this point forwards, but I’ll be back with a free-to-read essay next week. x
